Photographs, whether old or new,
provide one of the richest sources of information.
They also provide many hours of entertainment as
well as the basis for endless arguments.
The Highland Railway attracted
many well-known photographers from the early days
of railway photography. The spectacular Highland
scenery continues to provide the backdrop for many
outstanding photographs of modern traction and the
many tourist trains which come to the far north.
The historic collections
available include :
- Kenn Nunn, formerly in the possession of the
Locomotive Club of Great Britain but now
transferred to the National Railway Museum,
York.
- H L Salmon, now in possession of Stephenson Locomotive Society
- Transport Treasury,
various photographers
Many of the Society's photographs
can be viewed on the Highland Council's Am Baile website.
